COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State University Student and Faculty Senate voted Thursday to convert the university to a semester schedule rather than continuing its current quarter system.

OSU's Undergraduate Student and Faculty Government voted to make the change to semesters, but the final decision will belong to the OSU Board of Trustees, who would vote on the issue in April.
President E. Gordon Gee publicly stated that he would support the switch.
The earliest that the change to semesters could take place would be in the fall of 2012.
Most students Newsome talked to on campus said they would rather stick with quarters.
Ohio State was not the only college in Ohio looking to make the switch to semesters.
Recently, the University of Cincinnati adopted a semester schedule that will begin in the fall of 2012.
Ohio University also decided to make the change to semesters.
Other Ohio public universities on semester schedules included The University of Akron, Bowling Green State University and Miami University.
Students said they recognize the benefit of being like most other Ohio colleges and having semesters, though, particularly when it comes to the job search.
Students who graduate on a semester basis have week's head start on the job search.
One staff member told Newsome the move to semesters would be a nightmare.
