BATAVIA, Ohio -- The police chief in the southwest Ohio village of New Richmond has been indicted on charges that include menacing by stalking and theft in office.
A Clermont County grand jury returned the indictment Wednesday.
David Willoughby has been chief since December 2006. He also is charged with dereliction of duty, obstruction of official business and two counts of unauthorized use of a computer.
Willoughby has been on administrative leave since September. He could be sentenced to five years in prison if convicted.
Willoughby's lawyer says the chief's innocent friendship with a teenage girl led to the stalking charge and that the theft in office count is related to his use of a police cruiser for personal travel.
