Mill Haunted, Hassled By Ghost Hunters

»  Comments | Post a Comment

TROY, Ohio -- The owners of a historic mill in western Ohio complain they've been haunted by ghost hunters ever since a book claimed spirits were seen on the property.

Melissa Duer told a Miami County judge this week that she had to spend thousands of dollars for private security and a dog at her family's Staley Mill, the only grist mill still standing in Ohio.

Last week, Judge Robert Lindeman ruled that the 2005 book "Weird Ohio" did not intend to cause emotional distress and that the people who published it did not cause anyone to trespass on the property.

But the hearing concerned the judge's finding that one of the authors never responded to Duer's lawsuit.

Lindeman will now decide how much to award Duer in a default judgment. She's seeking about $37,000.
