Motorist Saves Baby From Runaway Buggy

»  Comments | Post a Comment

BURTON, Ohio -- When their horse took off with a baby in its buggy, two frantic Amish women in Ohio relied on a nursing student with a car to retrieve the child safely.

Thirty-seven-year-old Michelle Rowell says she was driving Wednesday evening near her home in rural Geauga County when she noticed a buggy that didn't seem to have anyone inside.

Just then, she saw an Amish woman in the road screaming for help. Rowell picked up that woman and another who was the 1-year-old boy's mother and was also very anxious.

Amish people generally shun modern conveniences such as motor vehicles but sometimes enlist non-Amish as drivers.

Rowell phoned 911, but the two women wouldn't give any information.

Before long, the car was able to get in front of the horse to stop it.
