Road Needed For Full Rickenbacker Development

»  Comments | Post a Comment

ASHVILLE, Ohio-- Columbus and Franklin County leaders have pinned a lot of hope on the future of development and jobs at Rickenbacker, where an intermodal transport system is on the drawing boards.

However Thursday night in Ashville in Pickaway County, engineers with the Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission explained that a key element to the internal development at Rickenbacker is a large feeder road which would run from the base area directly to U.S. Route 23.

Officials told NBC 4's Mike Bowersock that there is a lot at stake.

"It has the potential to bring 15,000 to 20,000 new jobs to the area over the next 20 years. That's not going to happen if we're not going to get the trucks in and out," said Nate Green, Pickaway County Economic Development Director.

The project would cost in the neighborhood of S32 million and is not "shovel-ready."

It is several years down the road and may possibly displace some Pickaway County residents: however, plans are not detailed enough at this point to know with certainty if anyone would be affected.
