COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has announced the schedule and Web site for a competition that allows Ohioans to submit proposals for redrawing congressional districts more fairly. Beginning Friday, Ohioans can go to www.ohioredistricting.org to sign up to participate and be trained on using the necessary software. The competition begins on April 6. Winners will be announced May 11.
Contest supporters say the goal is to show that fair, competitive districts can be drawn using formulas. Critics of the way districts are currently drawn by legislators say the lawmakers use their authority protect their own parties. Brunner, the League of Women Voters of Ohio and other partners are supporting the contest.
