WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Federal funding for cleaner and more efficient transportation technologies has led to immediate benefits for one Central Ohio school district. NBC 4 Meteorologist Ben Gelber met with the Director of Facilities and Operations for Westerville Schools to see the newest class of green fleets in the district. The district will be retrofitting nearly two-thirds of its buses with specially designed filters to capture harmful pollutants.
They were awarded a $620,000 grand through the Federal EPA to retrofit the buses. Diesel emissions account for most of the particle pollution, soot that can harm the lungs and foul the air that we breathe. The busses with the special filter will reduce emissions by 90 percent.
