CLEVELAND - A suburban Cleveland man who was struck by a public transit bus has died.
A spokesman for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority says a bus making a left turn hit 59-year-old Patrick Merrill of Berea on Saturday as he was crossing a downtown street.
The Cuyahoga County coroner's office says Merrill died Wednesday.
Transit authority spokesman Jerry Masek says the driver, Angela Williams, has been suspended pending a police investigation.
He says Williams previously hit and injured a pedestrian in 2006 and was fired. She returned to work when her union successfully filed a grievance.
The transit authority recently retrained its drivers to make safe left turns after a 66-year-old man was struck and died last fall.
A message was left late Wednesday seeking comment from police about whether any charges have been filed.
