COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A federal judge in Ohio has sentenced a missing executive and a company's founder for their roles in a $1.9 billion corporate fraud.
During Friday's sentencing in Columbus, U.S. District Court Judge Algenon Marbley said the scheme at health-care financing company National Century Financial Enterprises could not have been perpetrated without Rebecca Parrett.
The 60-year-old former vice chairwoman of the suburban Dublin firm disappeared last March after being convicted on 13 counts of securities fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.
The judge said Parrett's absence displayed an utter disregard for the law, drawing an apology from her attorney, Greg Peterson.
Marbley also sentenced National Century founder Lance Poulsen on similar charges on Friday.
Poulsen was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Marbley said Poulsen was "the architect of a fraud of such magnitude that it would make a sophisticated analyst shutter."
Poulsen was convicted in October on 12 counts of securities fraud, wire fraud and money laundering.
