COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man died Saturday night after an apartment fire earlier that morning.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Sunday.
The Columbus Division of Fire was called out just after 4 a.m. Saturday to the Maple Glen Apartments off of Alum Creek Drive on the city’s East Side.
Upon arrival the companies encountered a three-story occupied apartment building with fire in a third-floor apartment extending into the attic. The apartment was occupied.
Kevin Moore was letting his dogs out as he saw smoke rising from the apartment complex.
Moore sprung into action. He described running into the burning building and dragging his neighbor, Nasir Dooley, to safety.
Moore saw thick, black smoke coming from the apartment and kicked the door in of the fire apartment.
He said he crawled into the apartment and dragged Dooley out of the apartment. He then carried Dooley down the stairs until the paramedics arrived.
Firefighters on the scene also assisted numerous people hanging out windows down ladders to safety.
Dooley was transported to OSU Burn Center with second and third degree burns to over 97 percent of his body and was in critical condition.
Dooley died at about 11 p.m. Saturday night from his injuries.
