ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University in Athens has issued a crime alert for its students. It was reported on March 25, a female student told police she was sexually assaulted in an alley beside Old Baker Center on East Union Street on March 18. The victim told officers she was walking on East Union Street when she was approached by a white male, approximately 5’6” with short hair. The suspect put his arms around the student’s neck and forced her by knife-point into the alley where she was raped. He then fled the area on foot. Police are asking if you have any information on this crime, contact the Ohio University Police at (740) 593-1911.
The University reminds everyone to walk with others, stay on well-travelled paths, report suspicious people immediately and let friends know where you are going and when you expect to arrive. There is also a SafeT Patrol escort service available by calling (740) 593-4040.
