COLUMBUS, Ohio – Parents and children concerned about the presence of gangs gathered in East Columbus Saturday afternoon to confront gang-related issues. Columbus Police officers presented several ways to identify youth gang involvement and pushed parents to get active in their kids lives. Some ideas include encouraging kids to get involved in youth sports and other activities and stressing the importance of education for their future goals. Some possible indicators of gang involvement that parents need to be aware of: graffiti or unusual doodlings with symbols that show up repeatedly, tattoos, scars and other bruising or a different style of dress with only certain colors worn.
The Cross and Shield Police Association sponsored Saturday’s summit. For more information you can go to www.crossandshieldpolice.org or call (614) 774-1758.
