GAHANNA, Ohio -- A drop in crime in the city of Gahanna is being credited to the presence of a dog park.
Since opening a little more than a year ago, Gahanna police said the number of people loitering in Pizzuro Park has dropped significantly, NBC 4’s Candice Lee reported.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes frolic and play at the Pooch Playground in Gahanna.
Jimmy Gomsiewski has been bringing his puppy to the park since last summer.
“I think it’s a really nice park. As far as the size, it’s definitely big enough to have lots of dogs here,” Gomsiewski said.
Now, the city of Gahanna plans to expand the park, doubling its size and adding more features for their four-legged patrons.
Once popular with loiterers, Pizzouro Park has cleaned up its act. Gahanna Deputy Chief Ken Bell said that volunteers who use the park have been instrumental at cutting down suspicious activity, reducing the need for officers to patrol the area regularly.
With the new addition slated for completion on June 1, those volunteers will have more space to keep an eye on.
