COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Congressman John Kasich has taken steps toward starting a campaign for governor.
According to Doug Preisse, chairman of the Franklin County GOP, Kasich filed paperwork Friday to designate a treasurer to campaign for governor.
It is the first step in what will likely be a campaign for governor in 2010.
Preisse said "We are excited he is taking this important first step. We have been hoping for this day. It's about time we had real leadership in Ohio again."
Kasich is a former Westerville congressman and current Fox News contributor.
Designating a treasurer will allow him to raise money. An official announcement is expected in the coming months.
