LANCASTER, Ohio -- In five days, the Fairfield County Foundation received more than $100,000 in pledges to help repair and refurbish a Lancaster landmark.
The 101-year-old grandstand sits in the back of the Fairfield County Fairgrounds.
It was deemed unsafe by the city of Lancaster after a tree fell on top of the structure last year.
Fair board members planned to auction off the building Saturday.
Although the foundation has a $100,000 dollars in pledges, board members say that would only cover the cost to restore the building.
It would cost another $250,000 to make the building usable.
The building has to be brought up to code or removed from the property.
Board members say it was a difficult decision but they couldn't afford the cost.
If someone were to buy the grandstand Saturday, they'll have to remove it because city leaders say it's unsafe.
If no one makes a bid, the fair board has the ultimate say as to what will happen to the structure.
