COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 20-year-old man was sentenced after an Amber Alert was issued for a baby and her 19-year-old mother last November.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Monday.
Whitehall police issued the alert for Jayla and her 19-year-old mother, Victoria Knight, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008.
Police thought the two might have been abducted after Thomas C. Griffin, a guest at Knight’s house, allegedly robbed another guest.
Five hours later, everyone was found safe, and police believed Knight left her house willingly.
Knight was charged with endangering children, and three men -- who were first believed to be suspects in the disappearance -- were charged with various crimes but not kidnapping.
Four arrests were made Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008: Victoria F. Knight, Randall L. Boyer, 18, Thomas C. Griffin, 20, and Zachary J. Ward, 20.
In a plea deal, Ward pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of carrying a concealed weapon and pleaded not guilty to several other charges including, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, robbery and improper handling of a firearm.
Ward was sentenced to five years of probation Monday.
Griffin pleaded guilty to robbery Monday, March 2.
Griffin was sentenced to four years in prison with a 112-day jail-time credit.
Knight pleaded not guilty Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008. Whitehall police said Knight died in late January, and police were treating her death as a drug overdose.
Boyer was ordered to stay away from the prosecuting witness.
