DAYTON, Ohio
Dayton public school officials say the district will receive $7.1 million from the state in a settlement over disputed enrollment figures.
The district announced the settlement on Monday.
The state said the district had wrongly claimed and received funding for about 700 students who were in charter schools, not public schools, beginning in 2004.
School officials disagreed and objected when the state reduced the district's funding. Ohio Department of Education spokesman Scott Blake said he had no comment on the settlement.
Dayton superintendent Kurt Stanic says the payments over two years will help reduce class sizes in the district of about 15,200 students.
The district says it is still negotiating with the state over $1.3 million in aid.
