BECKLEY, West Virginia. - Raleigh County employees from deputy sheriffs to county commissioners will soon be tested randomly for
illegal drug use.
The commission approved a contract Tuesday with Princeton-based Southern Regional Treatment Courts Laboratory. The lab will perform the tests at $8.50 apiece in tandem with the Mercer Day Report
Center.
Commission President John Humphrey says he's unaware of a major drug problem among county employees, but the commission considers this a safety measure.
Steve Collins, executive director of the Mercer Day Report Center, says his firm performs about 18,000 screens a month. Raleigh is the first county to contract with the center.
