Institute of Religion To Keep Doors Open

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The nation's oldest institution for training rabbis, cantors and educators of Reform Judaism says it will keep all campuses open.

The Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion has been facing financial pressures that led officials to consider closing two of its three U.S. campuses. They are in Cincinnati, New York, and Los Angeles. There is also a Jerusalem campus.

School officials announced the decision Tuesday after the school's board of governors adopted a plan to overhaul operations with the help of technology and innovation. The school says the changes will cut costs and enhance academics.

A group of faculty, alumni and other supporters pushed against campus closures. Hebrew Union College was founded in Cincinnati in 1875.
