COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A former Columbus hot spot isn't so hot with its crumbling homes and boarded-up store fronts.
But residents are banding together to transform the Hilltop on the city's West Side.
A big focus is to transform Broad Street from Highland to Hague Avenue from a ghost town of vacancies to a thriving business corridor.
Cleve Ricksecker led the Short North Business Association for years and helped turn the Short North into the hot spot it is today.
He inspired Hilltop residents with the belief that pockets of trendy neighborhoods, such as the Westgate community, are already helping to transform the Hilltop.
"The people that's lived here a long time have seen it go down and now they want to work to bring it back,” said Dewey Stokes of the Hilltop Business Association.
Ricksecker said a key to success will be projecting a youthful, smart image and marketing heavily towards young professionals in their 20s and 30s.
