EUCLID, Ohio -- A northeast Ohio man has pleaded not guilty to trying to put his infant son in a hot oven.
The man, 30-year-old Sammy Hunter Jr. of Euclid, was arraigned Wednesday in Cleveland and pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges. Bond was continued at $500,000, the court appointed an attorney and a pretrial hearing was scheduled for Monday.
The prosecutor says Hunter was high on drugs on April 28 and twice turned on the oven, then tried to place his 28-day-old son inside. Authorities say he was stopped both times by his live-in girlfriend, who is the child's mother.
Hunter also is charged with assaulting firefighters called to the house the same day over a natural gas smell.
He was already awaiting trial on earlier charges of aggravated robbery and bribery.
