COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It's a road project that's congesting a community -- construction on Henderson Road between High Street and state Route 315.
At a cost of more than $4.6 million, the Henderson Road construction project will replace roadway, curbs and sidewalks, and install a new bike and pedestrian path on the south side of the bridge over the Olentangy River.
Completion is set for November 2009, NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich reported.
Betty Heise and her family live at the corner of Olentangy Boulevard and Henderson Road -- in the middle of the construction.
She said she knows first-hand what it's like to deal with the slow moving traffic and ever-present construction crews.
"We're going to be losing all the trees on the side. They're taking down our fence," Heise said.
Drivers said they are feeling the pain of the bumpy pavement, too. But many said it's worth the hassle.
Public Service Director Mark Kelsey said they are moving the project along as fast as possible.
The contractor has 200 days to finish the project and workers are cleared to work 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and work six days a week.
Kelsey said penalties are also included on the project contract if the contractor unnecessarily delays the project.
