Signatures Force Ohio Mayor Recall Vote

»  Comments | Post a Comment

AKRON, Ohio -- Critics of an Ohio mayor say a second petition drive has generated enough signatures to force a recall election.

The group called Change Akron Now turned in nearly 2,000 signatures on Wednesday to force a recall vote on Mayor Don Plusquellic (pluhs-KWEHL'-ihk). That's almost four times the number needed to overcome a signature shortfall from the first petition drive.
If enough signatures are verified, there would be a recall election within two months.

Recall backers accuse the mayor of excessive spending and running up the city's debt.

Plusquellic, a Democrat and mayor for 23 years, says he will fight the recall drive.
