NEWARK, Ohio -- A Central Ohio superintendent said he’s resigning after his district passed a 7.5-mill operating levy Tuesday night.

Newark City Schools Superintendent Keith Richards gave the school board his resignation Monday, a day before the levy passed.
Richards has been the district’s superintendent for seven years.
He came to the district in 2002 as interim-superintendent to replace Randy Stortz.
He was appointed to superintendent by the school board one year later.
Richards said he wants to spend more time with his family.
His resignation was to take effect Aug. 1, 2009.
The board will begin a search for Richards’ replacement immediately.
