COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Hamilton County Commissioner David Pepper has announced his candidacy for state auditor in 2010.
Pepper declared for the race Tuesday at Ohio Democratic Party headquarters and received the endorsement of Gov. Ted Strickland.
Pepper is the only Democrat seeking to unseat Mary Taylor, the sole Republican currently holding a statewide nonjudicial office.
Pepper says he would fight waste and abuse if elected and work in a bipartisan manner.
The Ohio GOP says Pepper has no knowledge of state government and has limited experience compared to Taylor.
The auditor holds a seat on the state Apportionment Board, which draws legislative districts every 10 years.
Hamilton County is seated at Cincinnati.
