»  Comments | Post a Comment

FRANKLIN, Tennessee -- A construction worker made a 145-year-old discovery while digging a sewer line in Tennessee.

The construction worker in Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville, made a historic discovery when he found what is believed to be the remains of a Civil War soldier. The soldier was still wearing part of his Union uniform.

Civil War historians, archeologists and police gathered to see the discovery. Police collected bones and amazingly well-preserved Union Eagle brass buttons that were found scattered in a shallow grave in the middle of a construction site in Franklin.

About 2,000 soldiers died in the 1864 Battle of Franklin. Nearly all who died were Union soldiers.
