Officials Put Price On Kent State Riot

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Local officials have put a price on last month's riot near Kent State University: $26,259.

Kent Safety Director William Lillich says that's what the disturbance cost the city for increased staffing and overtime in its police, fire and other departments.

Lillich says more people were called in not only on the day of the riot, April 25, but also the following weekend, when additional parties marked the end of the academic year.

More than 50 people were arrested during the riot, which came during the off-campus College Fest. Police said furniture and debris were set on fire, and officers and firefighters were pelted with bottles and rocks.

Lillich says the extra expense will have to be covered out of the city's general operating budget.
