COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Four Columbus firefighters were honored Wednesday.

CFD firefighters Patrick Malone, Barb Capuana, Danny Whiteside and Mike Warnimont were recognized for their service and dedication to the community.
The four firefighters were injured in the gas explosion Oct. 31, 2008, at 2326 W. Broad St.
The firefighters were dispatched on a reported gas leak a block from Station 17.
Upon arrival, the firefighters recognized the severity of the situation and cleared the building of occupants.
As they were attempting to get away from the building, a violent explosion occurred.
Firefighters were hurled through the air, and some were buried under the flying bricks and debris from the collapsed building.
The four were rescued by fellow firefighters and transported to area medical facilities.
Three of the firefighters still remain off duty as they recover from their injuries.
The ceremony was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Station 17.
