DAYTON, Ohio -- A proper headstone is being installed on the Ohio grave of a 1974 homicide victim known only as Boy X until he was identified earlier this year.
Dayton police officials plan to hold a ceremony Wednesday to lay the grave marker for Jimmy Dean Johnson, a 14-year-old runaway from a Cincinnati home for troubled children.
Police are hoping the publicity surrounding the event will bring some new leads in the killing. The boy was found bound and strangled along a railroad embankment in Dayton, and the body was unidentified for 35 years.
When he announced the name in February, Montgomery County Coroner James Davis credited modern DNA technology and the persistence of relatives who long suspected that Boy X was missing Jimmy Dean Johnson.
