COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A county prosecutor says DNA tests confirm that a 4-year-old girl was raped by a man whose claims of innocence had caught the attention of a nonprofit legal clinic.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien says in court documents filed Tuesday in Columbus that a blood sample showed 37-year-old Charles Dumas did rape the child from suburban Reynoldsburg in 1997.
Dumas was convicted of the crime in 1998 and sentenced to 10 years to life in prison.
The University of Cincinnati-based Ohio Innocence Project worked on his behalf for a time. The prosecutor and the victim's mother approved of the testing.
