TOLEDO, Ohio -- An official is concerned about an Ohio mayor's call for residents to help keep city parks mowed amid a budget crisis.
Toledo City Councilman George Sarantou says the city needs to find out whether it would be liable if a citizen is injured cutting the grass or hurts someone else.
He says instead of saving money the city could wind up paying expensive claims from lawsuits.
Toledo has cut back on seasonal landscaping workers, so this weekend Mayor Carty Finkbeiner plans to spend part of a second straight Saturday pushing a mower around a city park.
The mayor, who may face a recall vote this year, has invited residents to pitch in. His office says the response has been positive, with some people offering to "adopt" a park.
