PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Your favorite reading spot isn't going away, but chances are your public library is hurting financially.
Libraries are tied into state dollars for operating expenses, and a down economy means many are struggling.
The library director in Pickerington found out Friday the library will receive an estimated $100,000 less than the amount she budgeted for operating expenses.
The Pickerington Public Library at 201 Opportunity Way already slashed hours, circulation, staff members and programs during the last year.
Patrons say they have noticed the hardships, especially the hours.
The library is now closed on Sundays, and the director laid off three people last week.
Only 18 employees remain, and state dollars may not even reach what funds they were operating with back in 2001.
