CENTRAL OHIO -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol continued to crunch numbers from its Memorial Day weekend enforcement period.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Tuesday.
It looks as though there were 11 fatal crashes and 12 people killed over the holiday weekend.
That number mirrored the numbers from the same reporting period last year.
OSP noted one significant difference, though: There were four fatal motorcycle crashes during the 2008 holiday weekend; there were 5 fatal motorcycle crashes in 2009.
Sergeant Karla Taulbee said one fatal is too many and riders need to think about what they’re doing before they get on their bikes.
Taulbee said too many are not visible enough and they need to think about the color of clothes they’re wearing and how the other cars around them are maneuvering.
“Being visible. They're smaller than a car, and when they're out on the roadway a motorist, a car might not see them,” she said.
May also is Motorcycle Awareness Month.
Over the holiday weekend, troopers arrested 558 allegedly impaired drivers and assisted 4,941 motorists.
Circle Columbus totals were not available yet. That enforcement effort focused on Interstate 270.
