MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP -- Two years ago, Franklin County gave a nonprofit development corporation $300,000 to help demolish abandoned, dilapidated homes in Mifflin Township.

As of two weeks ago, though, only two of the 15 homes scheduled for demo had been demolished.

NBC 4’s Mike Bowersock did a FOLLOW UP to an NBC 4 investigation NBC 4’s Marcus Thorpe completed two weeks ago on taxpayer monies and vacant homes.

There has been new life in the demolition effort since NBC 4’s first investigative report.

Is it enough, though?

Two weeks ago, NBC 4 took you into a home on Perdue Avenue.

It was one of the 15 homes nonprofit development corporation MiraCit was paid to demolish

It’s a pile of rubble now.

Things have started to change in Mifflin Township.

“We've gotten a lot more contact with MiraCit right now. They've been very responsive. They seem to be moving quicker now,” Mifflin officer Steve Blake said.

NBC 4 spoke to MiraCit during the first report, and the company and Franklin County commissioners both defended the timeline, saying it's a five-year contract and the first few years are spent in negotiations.

Residents, however, had complained of a lack of communication.

Mary Ramsey, who was trying to sell them her house and property, told NBC 4 she hadn't heard from them in a year.

Ramsey told Bowersock Thursday she heard from MiraCit this week.

Mifflin Township’s abandoned, dilapidated homes are far from gone, but some residents and officials said they feel steps are being taken.
