CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A high school English teacher in northeast Ohio has started an elective course on homelessness. The 16 seniors in Jack Breisch's course at Hawken School in Chester Township are now nearing the close of class in the first-time elective. The 30-year teaching veteran introduced his students to the storytelling techniques of Truman Capote and Tom Wolfe so they learned about writing about real people. The students also split into small groups to go out into some of Cleveland's roughest areas and volunteer at programs serving the homeless. Annie Koeblitz said she used to get uncomfortable around panhandlers but now has a new appreciation for what it means to be homeless.
