COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Area malls and big-box retailers are stepping up efforts to make sure their properties stay H1N1 influenza free.
At Polaris Fashion Place and Eastland Mall, a housekeeping staff of 50 disinfects common areas such as the food court, bathrooms and children's play area.
"They are out in full force wiping up spills, cleaning off tables to make sure your shopping experience is a clean one," said Marketing Director Angela Krumpelman.
In the next week, hand sanitizer stations will be set up at the kids play area and at all entrances to the mall.
Mom Emily Rovai brought her twin boys to the play area for the first time Monday and said she appreciates the mall's effort to keep things clean.
"I have been somewhat hesitant due to the germ factor and everything that's going around," Rovai said.
In addition to cleaning public areas vigorously, Easton Towne Center installed hand sanitizer stations -- both in the primary bathrooms and office areas.
Tuttle Crossing representative Dee Hollaran said they are waiting for a response from corporate.
Ultimately, Krumpelman said that keeping shoppers healthy should also be the responsibility of the shopper.
"If you are sick or your kids are sick, stay home don't go out," Krumpelman said.
