High School Locks Down After Alleged Threat

JOHNSTOWN, Ohio -- A Central Ohio high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a student allegedly threatened a teacher and left school grounds.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Johnstown Monroe High School, at 401 S. Oregon St., was placed on a lockdown Tuesday morning, according to Superintendent Damien Bawn.

Bawn said a student made a threat against a teacher and then left school grounds. Bawn said an 11th-grader acted up in class and was sent to the principal’s office where he made a threat to make bodily harm to a staff member. The student faces possible suspension.

Johnstown police were called to the school.

The school was off lockdown at noon. The alleged threats happened around 9 a.m. The school was off lockdown status by noon.

Apparently, the school's current alert system did not notify parents of the situation until 12:30 p.m.

Parents weren’t too happy about being informed of the incident three hours later.

“I think it should have been sent out as soon as it happened,” one parent said.

“We pass levies, we try to get schools going, and I have no information they were on lockdown today. I mean everybody should have got a call,” another parent said.

Bawn said the incident was “a lesson we can learn from” and affirmed that officials are reviewing the system.

Bawn said he didn’t know whether charges would be filed against the student.
