Ohio School Funding Panel Includes Lawsuit Figure

»  Comments | Post a Comment

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A person who symbolized problems with Ohio education funding will help monitor the state's new system for paying for schools.

When he was a 15-year-old student in 1991, Nathan DeRolph was named by a coalition of school districts as the lead plaintiff in their lawsuit against Ohio's school funding formula. He had been forced to sit on the floor at his high school in central Ohio's Perry County because there weren't enough desks.

Gov. Ted Strickland has selected the now 33-year-old DeRolph to sit on the state's new School Funding Advisory Council, which will conduct two-year reviews of the overhauled school funding system approved in the latest state budget.

DeRolph says he's proud of the historic role he played and looks forward to sharing his insight.
