COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Columbus man was sentenced Friday for assaulting a 1-year-old child.
Shane Woods, 21, was arrested in Nov. 2008 and charged with felonious assault and endangering children.
Woods pleaded guilty Friday to felonious assault in the second degree and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Columbus police said the 1-year-old victim was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital with a skull fracture, multiple lacerations to her intestines and bruises all over her body that police said was caused by blunt-force trauma.
The injuries required immediate, emergency surgery, police said.
Investigators said Shane Woods was caring for the baby when she was hurt, but his connection to the baby remained unclear.
