JOHNSTOWN, Ohio -- Licking County Crime Stoppers has (with your help) found stolen vehicles, electronics and treasured family heirlooms, but the thievery of cow embryos and bull semen likely are a first for the crime-fighting organization.
NBC 4's Marcus Thorpe reported with the FAST FACTS on a unique breaking-and-entering case out of Johnstown.
"They won't have any idea. They'll think it's weird. I really do," said victim Doug Moore.
It's seriously big business, though.
A nitro tank valued at $32,000 and its contents was stolen from a barn on Riley Road between Tuesday, Aug. 11, and Saturday, Aug. 15.
The tank was full of liquid nitrogen and contained 59 straws of cow embryos valued at $500 each, 30 straws of bull semen valued at $20 each and five straws of heat-wave bull semen valued at $300 each.
That's $32,000 worth of cow creation -- gone.
Moore can't stop collecting so he purchased a used tank.
Moore said he doesn't think the tank is something the average thief would have his or her sights on.
"It isn't normal. Nothing else was taken or touched," Moore said.
The tank was a Select Sires MVE XC Millenium 20.
Licking County Crime Stoppers offered as much as $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest or an indictment.
Anyone with information on the crime was asked to call Licking County Crime Stoppers at 740-349-6888 or 888-488-9058. A special coding system protects the identity of the caller but allows for the reward to be issued at a later time.
