Best Buddies Club Helps Students With Special Needs

»  Comments | Post a Comment

HILLIARD, Ohio -- The Best Buddies Club is a club at Bradley that pairs students in general-education classes with students in the special-education department.

The advisor of the club is Robert Brown.

Brown said this club is mostly to create friendship between his special-education students and the members of the club.

“We do monthly events. This month we went to Kuhlwein’s Farm. Next month we’re going to make a Thanksgiving dinner for all of the students. The students in the club also come into the class and act as a teacher’s assistant and they help the students,” said Brown.

“They also help the special education students out at sporting events. They pick up balls, get water for the players, and help with the equipment. In general, the Best Buddies club members make contact with their buddy weekly, so they have friends and people to talk to.”

Sophomore Haley Nassar enjoys the Best Buddies Club.

“I love working with the kids, and they’re really sweet. It’s also a lot of fun,” said Nassar.

Sophomore Elizabeth Doran, talked about why she joined the club.

“I wanted to try something new, and I thought it would be fun,” she explained.

This month, the club went to Kuhlwein’s Farm.

The students got to spend time with their buddies as they went on a hay ride and went through a corn maze, and the members got to pick pumpkins.

Sophomore Jen Steiner attended the trip.

“The trip to Kuhlwein’s was fun. It was very exciting since it was our first event, and the maze was fun. It was also cool that we got free donuts and pumpkins," she said.
