COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Detectives were looking for a person of interest after a man's body is found in an SUV 20 hours after the shooting is reported.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Northland Arm apartments on the 4600 block of Tamarack Boulevard around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The body of an adult male was discovered in a black SUV in the lot.

The victim, who was in his 40s, suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Police said a firearm was found in the SUV with the body.

Police later identified the victim as 47-year-old James A. Davis.

An NBC 4 crew was reporting live from the scene of a SWAT standoff on Rockcastle Drive near Morse and Karl roads Tuesday morning.

A woman walked up to the crew and asked for a cell phone shortly before 6 a.m. She told NBC 4 her husband, Davis, had been shot in the head. She called 911.

The woman led police to a nearby parking lot, but it wasn't the one where Davis' body was found.

"They couldn't locate anybody. They couldn't locate the victim. They didn't see this vehicle. They couldn't find anybody around here. Nobody heard anything," CPD Homicide Sgt. Dana Norman said.

Detectives said Davis was the victim from yesterday's reported shooting.

The SUV with Davis' body was removed from the scene and taken to the coroner's office before 7 a.m. Wednesday

Police continued to search for the woman who asked to use the crew's cell phone. Police would like to question her about the incident.

"She's definitely a person of interest that we need to find and talk to," Norman said.

Police were not releasing the woman's name currently.

Anyone with information on the shooting or the woman's whereabouts was encouraged to call CPD at 614-645-4545.
