COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 20-year-old female pedestrian was killed in a crash with an SUV Thursday morning.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
The incident happened shortly after 7 a.m. on the city's Northeast Side.
The victim was on crutches and trying to cross Cleveland Avenue from east to west. The drivers of a Ford Escape traveling southbound on Cleveland Avenue tried to swerve but hit the female pedestrian, authorities said.
The victim was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m.
Authorities closed Cleveland Avenue's northbound and southbound lanes between Timbertrail Drive North and Belcher Drive, which is south of Morse Road, for crash investigation.
The road was reopened to traffic at about 8:30 a.m.
CPD's accident investigation squad said it’s too early to say whether charges would be filed. Officers at the scene told NBC 4 it didn’t appear as if the driver was at fault.
Police have not identified the victim currently.
