COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man was assaulted with a hammer after he interrupting another man destroying his ex-girlfriend’s car, police said.

The assault happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday in the rear of a home on the 400 block of South Hague Avenue.
Columbus police said David Fowler, 25, and Clarence and Adrienne Scarberry heard breaking glass and walked to the rear of the home to see what was happening.
The Scarberrys found 25-year-old Jesse Pence smashing the windows of his ex-girlfriend’s parked vehicle.
According to police, Pence struck Fowler in the head with the hammer he was using to break the car windows.
It remained unclear what ensued between the four individuals before Fowler was struck, police said.
Fowler was transported to a local hospital with a broken facial bone and other injuries.
He was listed in stable condition.
A short time later, police apprehended Pence and charged him with felonious assault.
