LANCASTER, Ohio -- There have been better days for many local counties when it comes to cash flow.
In Fairfield County, the county commissioners have asked each department to trim 9 percent from its current projection.
Commissioners said half of the county's revenue is economy based, so with income taxes, real estate, and sales figures all suffering, the same can be said for how much is coming in.
Now the focus is shifting to what could be at stake.
The Fairfield County sheriff said they could lose several deputies and other staff members with the cuts.
Sheriff Dave Phalen said they would have fewer employees than they had 10 years ago, even though the number of people locked up has doubled and the number of calls continues to increase.
There is still some room for conversation before the final decision in a few weeks, but many departments are preparing for a hard fall.
One commissioner said there might be talks of the sheriff's officials to forego raises for the coming year.
