WELLSBURG, W.Va. - Chopped-up bones found hidden in a wall of a 19th century West Virginia mansion have been sent to the Smithsonian Museum for analysis.
Brooke County Sheriff Richard Ferguson says it will help determine whether the remains found by a group of paranormal investigators at Aspen Manor in Wellsburg are human, and how old they might be.
Ferguson says the bones were found behind a basement wall, along with silver-rimmed eyeglasses and an electrical fuse common for homes with electricity at the turn of the century.
The mansion was built in the late 1890s by Joseph Vandergrift, son of a wealthy Pennsylvania steel tycoon.
It once featured an opium den, gambling and cockfights, but later became an assisted living home.
It's currently a bed and breakfast.
