COLUMBUS, Ohio -- In Mayor Michael Coleman's projected budget, a number of recreation centers that were once closed will be open by September 2010. Every Columbus rec center will either be open full-time or part-time.
However, there is one center, Milo-Grogran on East 2nd Avenue that will open on a part-time basis.
Jerome Brown says part time is better than no time, "At least they have something to do part time instead of no time sitting around watching cartoons and being around here."
For others, like Shawntelle White, the news that her rec center would not be open full-time will ruffle some feathers.
"That doesn't make any sense to me, I don't understand that, why not open it full time to give the kids something to do," White said.
As far as other rec centers, the mayor's plan calls for Barack rec center to re-open on April 1, along with the Martin Janis senior center. Residents will have to wait until September for Fedderrson rec
center to re-open full-time, along with Indian Mound, and Glenwood rec centers.
According to city officials five pools that closed last year will stay closed, unless more money becomes available.
