COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With the unemployment rate at double digits both nationally and statewide, limited seasonal positions are quickly filling up in Central Ohio. However, not all hope is lost during this time of year, as department stores and other businesses look to hire for the holiday season.
"During this time of year we will need increased man power, so we do hire for the holiday season, but we're at the tail end of our hiring for seasonal work," said a manager at Target on Olentangy River Road.
Target isn't alone in seasonal hires, phone calls and visits to Kohl's and Dick's sporting goods reveals seasonal positions still available, but not that many.
In a survey of 1,000 managers by snag-a-job.com, each plans to hire an average of 3.7 employees, down from 5.6 just last year. In fact, retail sales are down 2.8-percent, and more than 38-thousand retail jobs were lost in October.
As far as this holiday season, other than working in department stores or the mall, the United States Post Office is hiring up to 50,000 workers to help with the increased volume of packages and deliveries
during the Christmas rush.
