COLUMBUS, Ohio - Parking along many streets in Ohio's largest city will cost 50 percent more in a phase-in starting after Thanksgiving.
Columbus officials say crews on Nov. 30 will begin the work of resetting parking meters, a job that's expected to take a month.
Parking two hours at a meter will go up from $1 to $1.50 in the cheapest zone and from $3 to $4.50 in the highest-price zone Downtown.
Business owners complain that the higher meter rates will drive away customers.
Downtown restaurant owner Elizabeth Lessner says parking for lunch will now cost a roll of quarters.
City officials say the increase will bring in an additional $1.5 million from the meters each year to help replace aging meters and possibly support a new hotel project proposed for Downtown.
