CINCINNATI - Cincinnati police are getting some 24-7 crime watch help.
Eight video cameras are being installed in the downtown area in time for the holidays, with more planned for other parts of the city next year.
Police eventually hope to have 50 to 60 cameras operating. They can be used to monitor for criminal activity or to gain video evidence during investigations.
A $2 million federal grant enabled the city to buy the cameras, which have long been on the police wish list.
Cincinnati follows other major cities, including Cleveland, using cameras as a crime-fighting tool.
The head of the local NAACP is concerned. Christopher Smitherman says it's another sign of rights being eroded by what he calls "Big Brother" steps.
